I'm going to learn to fly on my own,
I'll spread my wings and leave you behind.
Bring me down any longer you don't,
It's time I grow to my own,
put up with your pride is something I won't,
this time is real, I'm leaving you alone.
At first it works, but I see now
how your mischievous mind works.
because of all the years
you made me feel as if all I could do was crawl.
I'm learning to fly,
now it's over,
I'm saying Good-bye.
Find a new one to make feel small,
you put yourself up,
you made yourself seem so tall,
under your thumb I was afraid,
But now I'm sick of this trade.
I toiled and cried,
oh, the pain and the grief,
you played while I died inside.
Now I know what I can do,
now I know I don't need you,
I open my wings, the wind lifts me high,
Now I'm done learning,
Now I can fly.
